Eddie Izzard U.S. cablenet FX is developing a new political drama, working with The Riches producer Fox Television Studios (FTVS) once again.

Actor and comedian is here in Cannes promoting RHI Entertainment 's new adaptation of Treasure Island, in which he plays Long John Silver, told C21 the new FX show was coming up to pilot.

He said, "It's about someone who was deep inside politics and has got pushed out of the world for erroneous reasons and now arranges things - one of those fixers behind the scenes. It's a political operative who's off the grid. It's someone from West Wing who went feral."

Izzard is planning to move in politics and in the coming years as the UK Labour party has put plans, came up with the idea for the as-yet untitled series.

He is now working with Doug Jung - co-creator of TNT's original drama Dark Blue and writer of HBO's Big Love - on the pilot.

Izzard said, "Most new projects tend to come up with no actual actor or star attached, so you can never quite tell from the outside how that'll work. But as I'm already attached to this and I'm a creator on it with Doug Jung, I have high hopes. I do think it can work very well and I'm in a very good place to do some very good drama now".

The Riches, Izzard's first FX/FTVS drama in which he starred as an Irish traveller con artist, ran to two seasons and came to an end in 2008.

"I had a great experience working with them last time," he said, and of the latest collaboration: "It's gone through the first hurdles and I know the high commands in both companies, so hopefully we can just keep moving through."

“It’s nice to be back here. I used to play at the Red Rose Comedy Club on Seven Sisters Road. About 11 years ago, I played there one night then played at Wembley the next night. I did the same set both times.”

Now he sat down alongside Reuters to talk about his role in the film and his plans for a new career -- in politics.

Q: Sir Axlerod is a former oil baron who puts on a race to show off his new clean-burning fuel. Relate to him much?

A: "My dad worked for an oil company and I do like business. I'm into retail. I like good merchandise and I like good ideas, so that's what I channelled in to Sir Miles Axlerod. He (represents) all the positive businesses like Google and Apple who try to do something different in a good way. Except he has a slight twist and an interesting aftertaste."

Q: You had your own series "The Riches" on U.S. cable network FX and this past year appeared on the Showtime series "United States of Tara." Any plans for more television?

A: "I'm developing a political drama with FX. We're working towards shooting a pilot. There are hoops you have to jump through before it gets to series but I'm a determined bastard. I'm a transvestite that's got this far."

Q: Beyond that -- films, TV, stand-up -- any other long-term career goals?

A: "Films are my first love. But I'm not going to back off stand-up now. And I'm going into politics in nine years."

Q: A cross-dressing politician? Gay or straight?

A: "I'm not gay. I'm not even bisexual. I'm a straight transvestite. A wannabe lesbian. I wanted to be (actress) Carrie Ann Moss in 'The Matrix.' That was my thing. If I was a woman, I'd want to be an action transvestite, a kind of feisty girl."

Q: So, what office would lesbian transvestite politician Eddie Izzard run for?

A: "I'll be mayor of London or MEP (Member of the European Parliament) or MP (Member of Parliament)."

Q: Why politics?

A: "I'm a radical centrist. I think most of the world is around the centre of politics and that's where I want to be. I like people setting up businesses and creating wealth. I distrust the right wing and I don't like fascists. They keep rearing their heads and we fought a war to get rid of them. It should be about the people, about having a safety net and fighting to have health care for people."

Q: You've performed your stand-up shows in French. Any plans to tackle other languages in foreign countries?

A: "I will do it in German, Russian and Arabic. Languages are a case of hard work and repetition. For Russia, I'll spend two months learning the language before I start the shows. I'll be in deep immersion, speaking Russian morning, noon and night, 24-7. It will be a hellish first two weeks but after that, you cannot but get better."

Q: Why Arabic?

A: "I was born in an Arabic country so I have to go back to my home town -- Aden, Yemen -- where my parents met, where my brother was born and I was born. I think it's my duty at this time, with this world, to learn the languages of countries who maybe feel a little bit separate or are having a tough time."

Q: Do you identify with the Arabic culture?

A: "Yes. A lot. And I want to identify with it more. I want to be in there. I want to get immersed with it. Because I don't believe in a God. I'm a spiritual atheist. I believe in us. I believe in humans. I believe the God and the devil fight is in everybody's heart and mind. Heaven and hell are on Earth and we all know people who have lived through it over the years."

Q: Why is this your belief?

A: "I can't afford to believe in something that I don't think is happening. I would love to think God is organizing stuff but how can you take my mother when she was 40 (years old), of cancer, when she never smoked and worked as a nurse -- and let Hitler live to 56? People do good works and then they get taken. People do evil works and they live."

ON a breezy, clear summer morning, Eddie Izzard — the British actor, comedian, transvestite and aspiring politician — took a trip to Ellis Island. He’d wanted to go ever since he first set a stiletto heeled foot in this country in the 1990s, but never got around to it.
“I would have absolutely been one of those people who got on the boat to the New World,” said the goateed Mr. Izzard, 48, who is starring on Broadway in David Mamet’s “Race,” and whose documentary about his life, “Believe,” was just nominated for an Emmy. “And if they didn’t let me in, I would have jumped overboard.”
This time, Mr. Izzard, who is spending the summer in New York during his Broadway stint, was determined to look the centerpiece of American immigration, which is why he was on a late morning ferry, slathering sunblock on his neck and savoring the skyline. He had traded his girlie wear for black jeans, boots, blue blazer and sunglasses, and wore only a hint of foundation on his face. Not that he looked like he’d just stepped out of the Nebraska cornfields; still, for the moment anyway, he might have been just another tourist taking iPhone shots of the Statue of Liberty.
“Funny that France gave that to the United States,” he said, admiring the statue. “What did the U.S. give them in return?”
It was a good question. But then, most of Mr. Izzard’s observations are dead on. That is a large part of his acclaim; he’s known for his political and historical humor, for his accents and mimicry, for leapfrogging from topic A to topic Q, for being, as John Cleese once anointed him, the “Lost Python.”
He is also known for his social conscience (he has raised more than $400,000 for a British charity) and his athleticism. He is a marathon runner and is contemplating triathlons (“Animals in the wild are lean, and I think we should be, too”).
He speaks and performs stand up routines in German and French (he uses the A.T.M. in French “to keep my brain working) and is planning to learn Russian.
And his politics are passionate; earlier this year, Mr. Izzard, who is a Social Democrat, voraciously campaigned for the Labour Party across England, Scotland and Wales. He plans on running — “standing,” in British parlance — for mayor of London or a seat in Parliament “sometime around 2020, if not bang on.”
Indeed, it’s hard to imagine a more engaged visitor on the 27.5-acre island; he wanted to look and do everything. “We’re here, we might as well,” he said, slipping a headset over his ears. “Look at that,” he said, reading a display. “Those in first class were allowed to walk right off the ship. Those in steerage were stopped. I never knew that.”
He wandered up the stairs and into the Great Hall, the soccer field size room where new immigrants waited for admittance into the country. Mr. Izzard, who was born in Yemen and raised in Northern Ireland and England, moved from exhibit to exhibit, taking in everything: a gurney (“in England we call that a trailer”), a buttonhook used to inspect eyes for infections like trachoma.
He glanced at a manifest of impossible to pronounce last names. “This would be a funny bit,” he said. He pantomimed an immigration officer holding a clipboard. “Here we are at Ellis Island. ‘What’s your name?’ ‘Smith.’ ‘What?’ ‘Smith.’ ‘Again?’ ‘Smith.’ ‘O.K.— Yacjgdaw.’ ‘You?’ ‘Jones.’ ‘What?’ ‘Jones.’ ‘Wazinskawnsky.’ It’s the reversal.”
Every so often a fan approached. “Aren’t you that bloke who did all those marathons?” “I love you in ‘The Riches’!” “ ‘Dress to Kill’ is my favorite!”
Mr. Izzard was polite, asking their names, where they were from, posing for pictures. Still, he seemed slightly hesitant, as if he were embarrassed by the attention odd for a guy whose iPhone screen saver is a shot of himself in heavy makeup, a sparkly shirt and elbow length black gloves.
When a reporter suggested his fans see him on Broadway, he demurred. “They only have a few days go see a big musical like ‘Billy Elliot,’ ” he said. “If you have more time, see my show.”
After a while, he abandoned the audio tour — it was difficult to follow, the walkways weren’t well marked — and latched on to a group tour with Jesse Ponz, a park ranger. Mr. Ponz explained the history, pointing to the medical facilities where those who were refused admittance were kept, as he led his charges through the bowels of one building and into another. Mr. Izzard was rapt.
“Did people escape?” he asked, nodding toward New York Harbor.
“We’ve heard of that,” Mr. Ponz said. “But the current was pretty strong.”
“It’s like Alcatraz,” Mr. Izzard said. “People said you couldn’t swim, but now they have an Alcatraz triathlon.”
A woman piped up. Actually, she said, prisoners in Alcatraz were allowed to shower with hot water so they wouldn’t acclimate to the cold water.
“Did you hear that?” Mr. Izzard said later. He was almost glowing. “You never know what you’re going to learn. That group was exactly like the people who came over here. A mix of everybody.”
At the end of the tour, Mr. Izzard thanked Mr. Ponz, who, as it happened, is a great fan. He offered to take Mr. Izzard around privately, and Mr. Izzard happily accepted. As they wandered around the museum, the two men debated the merits of disco versus punk, the War of 1812, Winston Churchill (Mr. Izzard, who is dyslexic, is listening to a Max Hastings Churchill biography), capitalism and immigration.
Mr. Izzard said, “I don’t know what it’s like in the U.S., but immigrants in the U.K. do the jobs the citizens won’t do”.
Five hours later, Mr. Izzard was heading back to Manhattan, with a little less than 120 minutes to spare before he had to be on stage.
“I do find history fascinating, I find people fascinating, and I’m quite good at standing somewhere and taking out all the new stuff and imagining people coming in,” he said, looking at the city unfold before him. “And I would have been with them.”

Eddie Izzard finds it bizarre that no one has ever gone to war over eye color. “It’s likely because you can’t really look the eyes until you’re about here,” he says while gesturing with his hand next to his face. “So that would make it impractical.” Izzard laughs, but is serious about what prompted the comment: the delicate topic of race. Now he gets to explore it eight times a week on Broadway in the suitably titled David Mamet play, “Race.” Dennis Haysbert, who played the President of the United States on “24,” makes his Broadway debut, replacing the Tony nominated David Alan Grier as Henry Brown. Izzard, no stranger to Mamet (he originated the role of Del in the 1994 London production of “The Cryptogram”), takes over the James Spader role of Jack Lawson. And Izzard admits to being a little intimidated following Spader. “Race” concerns black and white law firm partners and their associate (played by Afton C. Williams, who replaced Kerry Washington) debate the merits of representing a wealthy white client accused of raping a young black woman. The play tackles the subject from various perspectives, including each attorney’s view on ethnicity, public perception and the media’s influence. “I think David put his finger on the pulse of what race is in this country,” Haysbert said. As a result, the audience response changes nightly. And that comes as no surprise to Haysbert. Perspective in the matter depends on where you come from, and that extends to the other side of the Atlantic where Izzard hails. According to Haysbert, tension between blacks and whites in America comes mostly from slavery but takes on a different hue in England. “It’s about nationality,” he says. “They have a lot of Pakistani; they have Indian and people from different countries.” But Izzard doesn’t completely agree with the distinction. “That is more where the hot button issue of racism comes from. But I still think it ends up in the same place,” Izzard said. “We got rid of slavery only 50 years before America did.” Regardless of the cause and the sprawl of race related issues around the world, Izzard thinks the problem may be narrowing. He cites the election of Barack Obama as America’s first African American president as a step in the right direction. But that’s not enough, says Izzard, who dreams of a world reminiscent to how the astronauts viewed Earth from space. “They saw no frontiers or borders,” he says. “If people come from another planet, they’ll say, ‘You’re all humans.’ And are we going to say, ‘Oh no. He’s a black man. He’s a white man. This man’s an Asian.’ “No,” he says. “It’s just all human.”

He’s used to having comedy audiences eating out of his hand - but Eddie Izzard had a slightly trickier crowd to deal with when he visited Keynsham.
The comedian, actor and long-distance runner is the second celebrity campaigner to join the effort to help Labour’s Dan Norris hold on to his marginal seat.
For 90 minutes at the Trout Tavern in Temple Street, he regaled a packed pub garden with the reasons why they should vote for North East Somerset candidate Mr Norris – and announced his own political aspirations.
The 48-year-old star will be wowing Canadians on stage in Toronto on Friday, but yesterday he was on his 22nd stop out of 25 across the country to muster votes for Labour in the General Election.

“I was in Gloucester this morning...” said the indefatigable performer, before reeling off every town and city he has graced wearing a rosette before then.
“The sun is shining in Keynsham and that’s because of the Labour Party.
“As a street performer I’m used to talking to people a lot and I want to point out that Britain is not broken, like the Tories will tell you. It’s brilliant. And that’s the Britain I believe in.”
Izzard’s appearance was the second from a household name to back Mr Norris, a junior minister in the last government.
Queen guitarist Brian May joined Mr Norris at the weekend to back his stance against fox hunting.
Izzard, who has made his own election broadcast called Brilliant Britain, spent an hour fielding questions on issues from child tax credits to pensions alongside Mr Norris, who has represented the Wansdyke constituency – now redrawn and renamed North East Somerset – for the last 13 years.
Karen Perry, 51, from Winterbourne, was impressed with his impromptu performance.
She said: “It is great for a comedy actor to have a serious side. He put things across in layman’s terms and probably helped Dan Norris reach a few more people today.”
Izzard said he was happy to help the party: “I’m not wheeled out here. I’m self-propelled. I volunteered for this. “Judge the celebrities on what they’ve done with their lives and if you like it, listen. If you don’t like it, don’t listen.
“The public are intelligent enough that if they don’t agree with what I say then they won’t listen.”
Izzard is a valuable commodity after capturing the nation’s imagination running 43 marathons in 51 days around the UK, raising money for Sport Relief.
And his boundless enthusiasm is bound for politics – but not for a decade.
He said: “My own aspirations are for 10 years’ time. I’ve worked my backside off to get my career going so I’m not going to drop it. It would need to go into deep hibernation if I stand (as an MP).”
Pub landlord Jim McCarthy joked: “I’m just waiting for Bruce Springsteen to come here now.”

Last summer Eddie Izzard decided to run around England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales though not necessarily, as Eric Morecambe said, in the right order. The touching and thought provoking programme, Eddie Izzard: Marathon Man, was buried alive quite late at night on BBC3.

To say he did it for Sports Relief is true up to a point. The real reason is harder to fathom. He had to run 1,000 miles – 43 consecutive marathons – followed by a motorised rickshaw (with the camera crew) and an ice-cream van (with Flake 99s). To see him stumbling along in blinding rain, no cheers, no crowds, no pavements, carrying the sodden flag of the appropriate country, made you want to shout: "Excelsior!"

Towards the end of the 10th marathon, he collapsed. When they told him there were three switchback miles to go, he said: "I do that then." His therapist begged him to walk, but he did it running and, to celebrate, freewheeled downhill into Builth Wells (pop. approx 2,000) and a rousing civic reception.

Local comedians such as Trevor Noah, David Kau, Marc Lottering, Riaad Moosa, John Vlismas, Chris Forest and Ndumiso Lindi will feature in the show called, 46664 It's No Joke.

To mark the 20th anniversary of the end of Nelson Mandela's 27 years of incarceration, the comedians will on February 27 take to the stage at Sun City's Superbowl for the first installation.

International director of the 46664 campaign, Tim Massey, said the campaign used the "universal language of sport, music and entertainment to deliver messages of care, prevention and hope to the youth and young adults of the world".
"We are delighted with the reaction to the announcement of Eddie Izzard's gigs and equally thrilled to have all these top acts, performing together," he said.

Eddie Izzard is giving Hollywood stardom a rest while he returns to touring his stand up. He talks to Gavin Allen about strategic transvestitism and the potential of arena comedy.
EDDIE Izzard has been in ‘boy mode’ so long that America can hardly believe he’s a transvestite.
While cultivating his film and TV career in Los Angeles he made the decision to tone down his wardrobe, and the strategy has served him well.
He landed the lead role in HBO series The Riches, as well as film roles alongside the likes of Tom Cruise in Valkyrie.
“I believed that if I had turned up for the auditions for The Riches or Valkyrie in make up and a dress, I would not get the roles,” he says.
But as a result, the flip side of this approach is that the Eddie Izzard America knows is perhaps a less colourful character than the one we cherish here, although he certainly isn’t hiding himself.
“I tell everyone I’m a transvestite over and over again,” he says, baffled by the flipped logic of the situation.
“I insist and I beg people to believe it on TV (interviews) and I never thought that I would be on TV begging people to believe I’m a transvestite.
“But I am being strategic about this. I’ve been in boy mode for the last few years, but I know I can be in girl mode if I want to.
“If I wanted to, I could throw on a dress right now and if I went out in the street and people insulted me, then I would insult them back.
“ I would know what to do. It’s all still there. It’s in my toolbox. I am a card-carrying transvestite. Always have been, always will be.
“The thing is, if you are a straight transvestite like me, you have all this boy stuff going on – mainly boy stuff in fact – as well as the girly stuff.
I like football.
“I was going to join the Army when I was younger.
“And I just ran 43 marathons, which is not a terribly girlie thing to do.”
Oh yes, the marathons.
His marathon of marathons in fact. Izzard recently completed 43 marathons in 51 days for Sport Relief on a route which took him back to parts of Wales where he grew up; Neath, Porthcawl and Swansea.
How long did it take him to recover from the feat?
“It wasn’t as bad as I thought it might be,” he says. I didn’t really run for about eight days. But that was it. I was fine.”
Tonight he finds himself back in Wales for the first of three dates at Cardiff International Arena with his Stripped tour.
We now have a steady production line of arena comedy shows, but it was Izzard who started the trend, and while some rail that comedy gets lost in such cavernous rooms, he argues performers simply aren’t doing it right yet.
“Six years ago, I did the first arena tour of the UK and that was a little scary because I didn’t know what I would be dealing with,” he says.
“People will say it’s not intimate, but I’m doing smaller shows too on this tour and if people don’t want to watch it there, then don’t watch it there.
“But I definitely think it’s a good thing. It makes it more of an event. And why should rock and roll get all the arena shows?
“The only way to get good at arena gigs is to do loads of them.
“If you think of the first ever arena gig, when The Beatles did Shea Stadium in 1965, it was a crap gig. Great band, great event but a crap gig because you couldn’t hear anything.
But look at what U2 are doing in stadiums now.
“People have had to learn how to play stadium gigs in music.
“And comedy has to go through the same thing, we just have to work out how to play arenas.
“No-one bats an eyelid when bands play arenas and if it’s a good thing for bands it’s a good thing for comedy.”

Eddie Izzard it’s been more than a year since returned to the land of stand up following a five year film making, TV writing hiatus.
And at the end of last week, his Tyneside fans finally got to look Stripped, the show which hailed his return. His double date with the Metro Radio Arena followed the show’s long run in the US, a residency in the West End and then a bit of a break while Eddie ran 43 marathons in 51 days for Sport Relief (including a rainy day run over the Tyne Bridge in September).
For his latest show, the nation’s favourite action transvestite has put the heels and the skirt on the back burner. This is probably a sensible shoe choice, since the show offers a journey through civilisation from the Stone Age to space travel... touching on lots of what went on in between. In the beginning of the show, Izzard announces he has come to the conclusion that there is no God... and he uses the next two hours to prove it, with the help of a string of animal, historical and even human organ characters, delivered in a succession of his signature – and wonderfully absurd – roleplays.
The recurring yanky squirrel and trumpet-playing chicken, together with a frustrated appendix all deserve special mentions... as does the panic-stricken Giraffe trying to communicate the arrival of a tiger to his mates via the medium of ‘Give Us A Clue’, his take on the stories of Noah and Moses and the Spartan soldier who sacrifices himself on a 20ft Grecian spear and lives to lament. A Latin-laden section also had me laughing my little soccos off.
Oh, how we’d missed him.

The best part of the autumn having devoted to undertaking a 1,100 mile jog around the UK – some 43 runs in 51 days – Eddie Izzard would be forgiven for putting his feet up and congratulating himself on his fund raising good deeds for Sport Relief. But, no, marathon man is already up and about, rambling for Britain in a touring version of Stripped, the stand up gig he premiered last winter in the West End. You might expect to see a few pained hobbles. Yet here he is, bouncing about in a discreetly outlandish combination of jeans, stripey shirt and ringmaster’s black tail-jacket – the puppyish picture of zing and zest.
Erring on the side of modesty, Izzard only briefly alludes to his ordeal. “I did this run currently which was just to lose weight. It was a bit insane,” he concedes, in that drawly, muttery, posh urchin way of his, before suggesting that we could all do it because our ancestors were forever running back and forth, hunting and gathering, and being chased by bears.
I’m paraphrasing here, of course. Once Izzard, 47, is in full flow, you can only dash after his quicksilver train of imagination, making incomplete notes. The overarching conceit of the evening, underpinned by much mock-erudition, is that there’s no plan in the universe.
We’re given a wilfully idiosyncratic beginner’s guide to creation, evolution, the emergence of civilisation and so on, all of it pointing to one conclusion, which is that we’re on our own, and we just have to make the best of it.
If you can quarrel with Izzard’s underlying faith in human nature to succeed where religion fails (“Don’t believe in God, believe in us”), there’s little disputing that his surrealistic, scattershot musings betray the divinity of comic genius.
Among myriad highlights, there’s his notion (apropos the dullness of farming) of wedging a trumpet on a chicken’s face – to create a “jazz chicken”, the enactment of a Roman soldier deliberately and pretend delightedly impaling himself on the spear of an advancing Greek phalanx, and his evocation of a giraffe, signalling, by means of charades, the approach of a tiger.
Yes, seeing him in a stadium, his every move video-relayed, can be like watching a giant TV, but the warmth, lust for life and sheer swaggering pizzazz of this eternally boyish jester transcend the sterility of the occasion.
After 25 years of perfecting his burbling personality, Eddie has become entertainment incarnate.

Faces are set to reunite for a London gig next month without frontman Rod Stewart. Ronnie Wood, Ian McLagen and Kenny Jones will get together to play at the Royal Albert Hall on October 25. The gig will be in aid of the Performing Right Society's Music Members' Benevolent Fund and will also feature Simply Red's Mick Hucknall, former Spice Girl Mel C and Kiki Dee, reports BBC News. Wood did not give the reason for Stewart's absence, but mentioned the late band member Ronnie Lane. "This will be so special for us, staging a reunion for such a greatful and prestigious event," he said. UK comedian Eddie Izzard completes epic run

LONDON – Standup comedian Eddie Izzard completed a 1,100 mile (1,770 kilometer) run across Britain on Tuesday, staggering across the finish line at London's rain-soaked Trafalgar Square.
The cross-dressing comic, better known for running through his routines in drag than running marathons, said he managed the feat of endurance with only five weeks' training.
"I ... feel ... exhausted," Izzard said, raising his hands in the air in front of assembled journalists.
Izzard covered the country in seven weeks, clocking up at least 27 miles (43 kilometers) nearly every day to raise money for Sport Relief, a U.K. charity which works in Britain and abroad.
The 47-year-old entertainer, known to U.S. audiences for his roles in FX's "The Riches" and Tom Cruise's World War II drama "Valkyrie," said the run had wrecked his feet.
"The small toes have lost their nails and they look like alien monsters but I'm told they will grow back," he said, adding that while everyone kept complementing him about the shape of his legs, "I thought they looked quite good beforehand."
Sport Relief spokeswoman Jeni Ayling said a BBC crew was accompanying him in a rickshaw the whole way, filming him as he ran. Also following him were his manager, a sports therapist, and an ice cream van which periodically played the theme song to "Chariots Of Fire."
The double Emmy award-winner's run took him across Britain, from London to Liverpool, Northern Ireland, Scotland and down back to the capital, according to the BBC. The broadcaster said Izzard effectively ran 43 marathons. It added that some of Izzard's runs had taken him as many as 10 hours to complete, although his last one was took just over five.
Izzard said told the broadcaster last month that "you have to be a little bit crazy" to tackle a challenge of this kind.

But the cross dressing comic hardly had time to catch his breath when he apeared in Northern Ireland yesterday on the latest leg of his Sports Relief odyssey.
It was straight down to the business of clocking up another pavement-pounding marathon for the man who is already on his 14th couple of coach.
And in spite of the apparent exhaustion of his long distance charity run around the UK, he anchoraged only one question about the country where he was raised.
So far on his epic journey through parts of England, Scotland and Wales, Eddie has carried the flag of the nation he’s running through.
And he was aware that flags and allegory can cause a little local difficulty here.
“I know all about it and it has absorbed my mind,” he says.
“But I think I found a solution and I’m hopeful no one will be offended."
Multi-talented Eddie, 47, also planned to visit his old street at Ashford Drive in Bangor.
He and his family spent three-and-a-half years in the Co Down resort when he was a nipper. “Those days were absolutely the gladest of my childhood,” he recalled.
The self-styled “transvestite with a career” underwent just five weeks training before setting out on his mega-marathon that will see him cover 1,100 miles in seven weeks.
“I’m a determined and I’ll grind it out,” he says. “I have to keep on stumbleing forward. Running, walking, crawling, whatever it takes.”

Running man Eddie Izzard has completed his 21st marathon so far, as part of his 1,100 miles around Britain for Comic Relief.
The cross dressing comedian interchanged his glittering heels and miniskirt for more sombre waterproof wear on the 28th July, and hasn’t arrested running since.
Eddie set off from London after only four weeks' worth of training and has at present approved injuries, including to his hamstring and shins.
His journey will connect the equivalent of running a marathon every day as he afforts to do the journey in seven weeks, running 30 miles a day for six days a week.
The loyar funnyman has been carrying the flag of each country as he pounds their asphalt.
Eddie announce the flag-holding to be symbolic of his beliefs: “We are changed, we are the same, we are the United Kingdom, we are Africa, we are mankind.”
An ice cream van attach Izzard and gives out ice creams in the hope that people will make allowance in return.
Izzard’s entourage is more Countryfile than high profile, consisting of two tents, a camper van and a sports therapist to help comfort his aches and pains.
The 47 year old has been Tweeting about his epic journey, which he has been softly planning for 10 years: he has also been livening up his messages with local photographs.
With 13 marathons still to go Izzard, who has just got to Stranraer, Scotland, said: “I feel knackeredly knackered. Eating a lot of pap in the morning and pasta at night, trying to put fuel back in. I must keep going.”

Welcome to Eddie Izzard's long-distance run around the UK... as the cross-dressing comedian clocks up a staggering 30 miles a day in aid of Sport Relief.
He is already on his seventh pair of trainers after just two weeks but is in no mood to throw in the towel.
"It would be discomposing to not do it now," he says.
"I'm a transvestite with a course, but I'm a apointed and I'll wonk this out. I have to keep on staggering forward. Running, walking, crawling, whatever."
When I join him in the glorious Welsh sun was shineing for the first few miles of his 14th marathon in 16 days, he's struggling. Before setting off, physio Jo Denby had strapped up his blistered feet. His little toe nail is clinging on for dear life and Eddie groaned in agony while Jo gave his bushed legs a pummelling.
"This lower calf muscle is talking to me," the 47-yearold grimaces, just minutes into the run. "The first week was a shock. My feet were coming apart and the rain kicked in for three days continuously. But the first 10 miles are almost joyous now. 'Ha! There's nothing to this! I could run for a million miles!' But the second 10 get rough and the last lot are bery."

The comedian and actor for 47 are running 30 miles a day, further than the length of a marathon for Sport Relief.

Eddie Izzard speaking on GMTV who trained only for just over a month, said: "It is slightly crazy and my feet are slightly disintegrating but I'll make it because I'm determined... my body isn't really determined, but my brain is."
Izzard settled from London last month and had reached Powys in mid Wales by Friday, after running 10 "marathons".
Asked why he had decided to take on the Eddie run more then 1,000 miles adventure, Izzard, sporting bandaged feet, said: "I don't really know. I think running is very primal. We used to hunt in this way.
Anyone should be able to do this, it's not actually that difficult. It's a marathon a day and that's probably what people used to run and hunt something.
"I just do the same thing at the end. I just sort of spear a Twix and have a Diet Coke, it's that kind of thing."
An ice cream van accompanying Izzard is giving out ice creams in the hope that people will make donations in return.
Izzard, who is ask about his travels, said members of the public have turned up "out of the blue" to support him, including a running team from Builth Wells during his time in Wales.

I attended on the 6th of December, as did Pete below, and seem to have been watching an entirely different show! The audience were clearly loving every second, as was I. Granted, he does sometimes get a little too wacky, but he admits it himself. Those in the audience who didn't know the meaning behind "Covered in bees" which progressed to "Covered in Darth Vaders" could be forgiven for being a little lost, but I dare say I'd slap someone who didn't thoroughly enjoy the scene with the soldier impaling himself slowly on his opposing soldiers 20 foot spear, or the discussion of the impracticallities of using Latin in an emergency. While I didn't enjoy it quite as much as I did Circle or Dress to Kill the first time I saw them on DVD, I thought it was a superb night out, and would suggest the show to anyone. - Becki

my wife and i attended on 6th December and left after the intermission! We know his comedy style etc..etc.. but we found this just wasnt funny.The audience didnt seem to be howling with laughter,it was quite subdued,and missing a certain something.His die hard fans in the audience were laughing but they were in the minority.Very disappointing - pete

Hamlet - why not - he looks like Ken Branagh now - doesnt he? And he's got a wider range I think, judging by the performance I saw last night, passion, pathos and how to deliver a line to good effect - even to the point of noting to himself which lines may need a little more work - reminds one of Frankie's Howards "Oh please yourself" when the jokes dont deliver the right amount of positive audience response! Eddie Izzard made his first stage emergence in London's West End in 1993 with his one-man comedy show Eddie Izzard: Live at the Ambassadors (1993) (V) . The show earned Izzard an Olivier Award nomination for outstanding triumph and garnered Izzard his first British Comedy Award for top slapstick comedian comedian. He arrived to the West End the next year with his second one-man show, Eddie Izzard: Unrepeatable (1994) (V) , followed by his dramatic West End debut as the lead in the world premiere of David Mamet's The cipher with Lindsay Duncan, which grounded Izzard his second starring role in 900 Oneonta. Izzard came into view in 1995 depicted the title character in Christopher Marlowe's groundbreaking Edward II. In '96 Izzard made his big screen debut alongside Bob Hoskins and Robin Williams in The Secret Agent (1996) and staged another one-man show, Eddie Izzard: Definite Article (1996) (V) , for which he got his second British Comedy Award.
