London mayor Boris Johnson in the capital's tube and rail travel for eight per cent increase in prices announced on previous week.

The pair were joined by Valerie Shawcross, London Assembly member, and Jeremy Corbyn, MP for Islington North at the station as they debut their Unfair campaign - asking the mayor to reverse his decision to increase prices.

Mr Izzard said: “Money is tight for everyone at the moment, so it is the wrong time for big fare increases, especially two per cent above inflation. Since Boris has been mayor, the prices has gone up 56 per cent for a single fare.

“That is why I am backing Ken for mayor - he’s a bit of a maverick and I am a maverick myself. People forget all the work Ken, and other people, did to get the Olympics here next year. Boris gets a lot of the credit.”

Mr. Izzard said the area was fond of memories.

“It’s nice to be back here. I used to play at the Red Rose Comedy Club on Seven Sisters Road. About 11 years ago, I played there one night then played at Wembley the next night. I did the same set both times.”
